This historical, original 187l Deed was recorded at the James County Courthouse by the James County Clerk on July 3, 1871, just after the now defunct James County was created from portions of Hamilton and Bradley counties in Tennessee. The deed is conveying any interest that the daughter of Adam Maddux and her husband have in five tracts of land (more than 700 acres) on the north side of the Tennessee River and also an island in the Tennessee River containing about 60 acres (Dallas Island). The daughter, Cynthia A. Maddux Farris and her husband, Hugh F. Farris, are conveying their interest to the property to her brother, W.D. Maddux. The Maddux family were pioneers in our area of Tennessee. The old Maddux cemetery is located off of Harrison Bay Road in Harrison, TN. This is a rare, original document from 1871 and a true slice of history from our area. It has the original cancelled tax stamp still attached. Asking $750.
