Help get Upper River Road or Benton Station Rd designated as a NO THRU TRUCKS zone (as it was in the 1960s) to protect us from empty Georgia LOG TRUCKS and CHIP TRUCKS that take a shortcut from Bowaters back through our narrow little roads.

Re: Upper River Road

Several months ago I had spoken with you and the Television News Media regarding prohibiting commercial traffic on Upper River Road.
During this time my office researched all the accident information available to us and found there wasn't an abnormal amount of accidents on this road, and commerical vehicles were not involved in any of the accidents.
Our accident reports show there have been thirty-three (33) accidents on this 5.95 stretch of roadway from Sept. 1999 until today. Of the thirty three accidents only five (5) involved more than one (1) vehicle. Seven (7) of the thirty three (33) accidents involved injuries.
It is my opinion that there is no evidence that commerical vehicles are involved in or causing accidents on this road. There are a couple of (2) bridges on this road with lowered weight limits which should restrict most loaded commercial vehicles from traveling it with more than the posted weight limit.
But keep in mind that the Road Dept. is not a Law Enforcement Agency and therefore can not cite those who break highway laws.
I know you would like to see commerical traffic prohibited from traveling this road but I don't feel I have any cause to restrict them at this time.
